A washing-machine has its lid 11 locked by a bolt 23 actuated by a pneumatic mechanism responsive to rotation of the shaft driving the spin-drying basket. A pneumatic pump 20 is driven by a linkwork 31-39 operated from a cam 30 on the shaft 14. Air under pressure from the pump 20 enters a chamber 22 by a flexible tube 21 and moves a diaphragm against a spring, causing the slide rod 23 to move into the locking position engaging a hole 60 of the lid, excess air being bled off through a bleed hole. When the shaft ceases to rotate the pressure in chamber 22 is reduced to atmospheric by the bleed hole and the locking bolt is withdrawn.</p> |
