1. Surge arrester arrangement for a metal-encased gas-insulated electrical installation having a surge arrester (5) which is arranged in a separate gas-insulated metal housing (1) which is flangemounted onto the metal casing (2) of the installation and the one terminal electrode of which is connected in an electrically conductive manner with the housing and the other terminal electrode of which is connected in an electrically conductive manner, by way of a branch line (4) guided through a gas-tight bushing (6), with the tubular conductor (3) of the installation, characterised in that the surge arrester (5) is surrounded by a circular or semicircular arcing electrode (7), which is insulated in respect of its housing (1) and which is connected with the metal casing (2) of the installation by way of two electrically conductive current sections (9) which lie opposite each other by 180 degrees and are guided parallel to the branch line (4), and in that the arcing electrode (7) is provided in a manner angularly symmetrical to the current sections (9) with at least one arcing point (11) which faces the outer jacket of the surge arrester (5).
