3H- 1,2,4-triazol-3-ones of formula (I) in which R is 1-6C alkyl, are obtd. by (a) cyclising an amine of formula (II) with a reactant (III), in which L1 and L2 are salient reactive gps.; or alternatively, (b) reaction of cpds. L2-CH=N-NH2 and L1-CO-L1, followed by cyclising the prod. (III) with amine (II). The corresp. salts are obtd. by reaction with suitable acids.formulae to follow.
