For linear compensation of the rovings (2), impregnated with synthetic resin, during the winding of articles, the rovings (2) being guided along the winding axis by means of a guiding device, directing elements (9, 10), guiding the rovings (2) in directing eyes, are arranged ahead of the roller bank (3), receiving the roving rollers (4), above the roving rollers (4) on a device support (5) for each roving roller (4). Between these directing elements there is an electromagnet (11) above the directing eyes. Compensating weights (12), respectively surrounding a roving (2), are provided between the directing elements (9, 10). The directing elements (9, 10) together with the electromagnet (11) and the compensating weights (12) are arranged on the device support (5) at a height above the floor (17) which amounts to at least 1/2 of the roving length to be compensated. <IMAGE>
