<p>A brush-vacuum cleaning apparatus (40), for removing toner particles from the image-bearing surface (12) of a copier or printer (10), is characterized by an airfoil (60a) located on the inside wall (42) of a cylindrical brush housing (41). The airfoil (60a) relative to the rotation of the brush (46) of the apparatus, is positioned adjacent to, and on the upstream side of, a perpendicular slot (50) that connects the interior of the brush housing (41) to a vacuum source (70). The airfoil (60a) contacts and compresses the rotating fibers (47) of the brush (46) causing the fibers (47) to rub against one another and thereby to loosen toner particles entrained therein. In addition, the airfoil (60a) serves to aerodynamically deflect and accelerate an airstream (F3) moving with the fibers (47), deep into such fibers before the airstream (F3) leaves the housing (41), thereby flushing substantially all the loose toner particles out of the brush (46), and out of the housing (41).</p> |
