Pulverulent metal-containing material and process therefor

A process for producing protective layers on pipes for preheaters and economisers, used at a temperature below 400@C, in large boiler installations, and materials suitable for these should be able to be used for extending the service life of used pipes and for improving the corrosion resistance and the erosion resistance on new pipes. It has been found that thermally sprayed layers, with the use of pulverulent materials - above all of a non-spherical form - based on Ni, Fe and/or Co alloys which contain the elements Cr and/or Mo in a range from 0% to 35% of Cr and/or 0% to 25% of Mo and also a proportion of Al and/or Ti, leads to good results in the service lives; the materials allow a higher energy absorption of the particle during the passage through the flame. The application of the material - in the preferred grain size distribution between 37 mu m and 150 mu m - is advantageously carried out by means of an autogenic flame-spraying implement or a plasma-spraying implement.
