An electric connector comprises underwater mateable parts (18, 19) which comprise each at least one electrical contact (20-23) embedded in a body of electric insulation material. At least one connector part comprises a curved metal shield (24-27) which covers at least part of the wall of a cavity (35, 36) formed in a surface of the body of electrical insulation material facing the body of insulation material of the other connector part, said shield being intended to conduct electrical currents which may leak through a gap between the bodies of insulation material, thereby protecting the contacts from electro-chemical corrosion. The electric potential of the shields and their respective contacts are matched by integral formation, galvanically or via a compensating D.C. source. The electrically insulating bodies (18, 19) can define mateable male and female bodies supporting plural annular contacts (20, 21), (22, 23). The cavities are annular and provided in one or both bodies that support equal or unequal-sized shields. Alternatively, the bodies (80, 84) (figure 8) abut and support a projecting pin contact (81) and an embedded female contact (83), protected by coaxial annular shields (82, 85). The cavities (35, 36) can be half empty or filled with porous material. <IMAGE>
