<p>PURPOSE: To provide bicomponent fibers from which nonwoven webs can be obtd. without damaging the smooth surface by depositing a compatible mixture of specified two kinds of polymers on the surface of a first component which is oriented and crimp and contains partially crystalline polymers. CONSTITUTION: Bicomponent fibers are produced by depositing a second component (B) containing a compatible mixture of at least one kind of amorphous polymer and at least one kind of partially crystalline polymer on the surface of a first component (A) which is oriented and crimp and contains at least a partially crystalline polymer. The second component has >=130 deg.C melting point which is lower by at least 30 deg.C than the melting point of the first component. The concn. of the amorphous polymers in the second component is high enough to decrease the melt flow rate of the partially crystalline polymer in the second component, but not to high to cause bonding of the bicomponent fibers with the same bicomponent fibers.</p> |
