The invention relates to a device for reading out a luminescent storage screen (4), in which X-ray radiographs are latently stored and which has a stimulable fluorescent layer (13) and a layer (14) of magnetic material, with a scanning device which effects a line-by-line scanning by means of a scanning beam of a radiation source, so that the luminescent storage screen (4) is induced to light up image dot by image dot, with a transporting device (15) having magnetic holding means for the luminescent storage screen (4) and with a detector device for the two-dimensional sensing of the light emitted by the luminescent storage screen (4). The transporting device (15) has, at least in the region (27) of the scanning beam, a magnetic drive roller (15), which effects the transporting of the luminescent storage screen (4).
