<p>A method is disclosed for measuring normal heart function over a predetermined time threshold. These measurements are compared to measured RV end diastolic pressure/volume, right atrial filling pressure, right atrial peak volume, and/or mean right ventricular or right atrial pressure/volume which, if exceeding the normal heart measurements for a predetermined time threshold (18,28) is indicative of abnormal heart function (20,30). This indication taken alone or in combination with a predetermined heart rate in excess of a normal heart rate for a predetermined time, results in application of a defibrillating shock (36) to the heart of the patient. RV and diastolic pressure/volume, right atrial filling pressure, right atrial peak volume, and/or mean right ventricular or right atrial pressure/volume are the most consistent and instantaneous reflections of abnormal heart conditions which trace systemic pressure/flow.</p> |
