<p>A combine harvester (1) comprising an engine, a traction drive transmission (31), a header (12), a threshing and separating mechanism (9) and a machine throughput control system (Figure 2) comprising a grain loss control loop (37, 82, 44, 62, 45, 85, 84, 46, 38, 39, 41, 43, 81, 31) operable to produce a signal (L) representative of grain loss and including a grain loss controller (46) to which the grain loss signal (L) and a reference grain loss signal (LREF) are applied, a grain separation control loop (37, 62, 61, 38, 39, 41, 43, 81, 31) operable to produce a signal (S1) representative of the grain separation in the machine, the grain loss controller (46) being operable continuously to derive a reference grain separation signal (SREF) from the grain separation signal (S1) the grain loss signal (L) and the reference grain loss signal (LREF), and means (38) being provided for algebraically summing the grain sepation signal (S1) and the reference grain separation signal (SREF) to produce a grain separation error signal (ES) which is used to control the machine throughput.</p> |
