In a gas washer having a spray generator of the rotating cage type the gas to be washed is passed upwardly through spray from the cage and is given a swirling motion, preferably opposite to the direction of rotation of the cage, by passing the gas into the washer through an inlet 72 discharging tangentially into an annular baffle 74 surrounding the cage and the washed gas passes upwardly through a droplet eliminator to an outlet 32. In a modification the inlet is arranged to discharge tangentially into the casing of the washer and an additional baffle guides the incoming gas into the spray zone. In a further modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the swirling motion is imparted by a vane deck arranged at the bottom of an annular baffle surrounding the spray generating cage.</p> |
