PURPOSE:To detect the presence/absence of an image forming cartridge at a low cost by blocking a detecting means with a stirring and carrying means for detecting the presence/absence of the cartridge. CONSTITUTION:An image forming cartridge makes forward-rotating motions immediately after power supply is made and the motions are continued while a stirring vane 5 makes one turn. When the vane 5 makes one turn, surfaces of light transmissive widows 7 and 8 are cleaned by means of a rubber plate 6 fitted to the vane 5 and the light from a light emitting element 10 can pass through the windows 7 and 8, but the passage of the light is necessarily blocked for a fixed period by the vane 5 and blade 6. Such operations are necessarily carried out one time after power supply is made and states where a light receiving element 9 always receives the light of the element 10, where the element 9 is irradiated by the light of the element 10 by a fixed period, and where the element 9 is not irradiated by the light of the element 10 are detected. Therefore, the presence/absence of the image forming cartridge can be detected. |
