PURPOSE:To suppress the hydrogen gas in a battery system from being released to the outside of the battery system and improve the storage characteristic and high temperature trickle charge characteristic by sealing a battery with a gasket made of a polymer material with little hydrogen gas permeation quantity. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode 2 made of a hydrogen absorbing alloy, a positive electrode 1 made of a metal oxide, and an alkali electrolyte are incorporated in a battery can 5, the battery can 5 is sealed by a gasket 6. The gasket 6 is formed with a polymer material with little hydrogen gas permeation quantity. The high-pressure hydrogen gas in the battery can 5 can be suppressed from permeating the gasket 6 and being released into the atmosphere. The self-discharge of the negative electrode can be suppressed, the defective charge of the negative electrode is prevented. |
