The invention relates to a rotary gate for the essentially vertical tapping off of molten metal from a metallurgical vessel, having a rotationally symmetrical refractory rotor serving as a gate body, which is arranged so as to be rotatable about an essentially horizontal axis in a refractory stator containing an outlet channel, the rotor having a throughflow channel which can be opened and closed by rotating the rotor relative to the stator and the outlet opening of which is arranged in the circumferential surface of the rotor, the stator and the rotor being arranged in the interior of the vessel, in and/or on the refractory bottom and/or wall lining of the vessel, in the region of the molten metal, and the circumferential surface of the rotor being of cylindrical design and being accommodated in a correspondingly cylindrical seat of the stator.
