<p>PURPOSE:To obtain an annealing finish without any difference in the engagement with a bearing between the hardening start end and finish end and to eliminate the need for an adjusting means by applying fixed-position heating applied at the hardening start end at the finish end. CONSTITUTION:The surface of shafts over the practically whole length or a specified length in the horizontal direction is relatively traveled, and hardened by a hardening device consisting of a heating coil and a cooling jacket. In this case, the heating coil is opposed to the start end of the shafts, and the part is hardened at the fixed position for a specified time (t). The hardening device is then successively and relatively traveled toward the hardening finish end to apply heating and quenching. The relative traveling is stopped when the heating coil reaches the position opposed to the annealing finish end, and the part is heated at the fixed position for the same time (t). The heating of the hardening device is then stopped, and relative traveling is resumed to quench the heated part.</p> |
