METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR GENERATING NUMERICALLY CONTROLLED PROGRAM

PURPOSE: To automatically produce a part program that machines a parts based on a drawing by providing a means which reads the geometry of the parts out of a parts diagram to produce a shape data structure and produces a numerical control program based on the shape data structure. CONSTITUTION: A CAD/CAM system 10 reads the parts geometry out of a parts diagram and produces a shape data structure showing the geometry. A process planner 14 studies the shape data, decides a work sequence to produce a shape that is made out by the data structure and selects the processes in every work step to specify the tool and the material type which are used in every process. Then a code generator 16 selects a macroprogram corresponding to every process and writes the value of the process variable into a micro call frame to produce a part program.
