The invention relates to a metal retaining means for fastening installation frames, in particular window or door frames, in a masonry-wall opening, having a connecting part for connecting to the frame and having an elongate band or strip which interacts with the connecting part and is intended for fastening on the masonry work. Such retaining means are intended to be improved to the effect that there is no longer the danger of it projecting out of the masonry-wall plaster in the event of inappropriate bending and it is intended, moreover, for it to be possible to fasten the frame in an extremely rigid and stable manner in the masonry-wall opening. This is achieved in that the connecting part (11) is supported on the band (22) via a spacing element, the distance between band (22) and connecting part (11) being adjustable by means of the spacing element. <IMAGE>
