PURPOSE: To save cost required for replacement by forming an insert having a dovetail tenon from a residual part of a damaged hogging milling cutter by wire cut discharge work, and installing it onto a cylindrical holder having a dovetail mortise. CONSTITUTION: A dovetail tenon 21 of an insert 17 is inserted into a dovetail mortise 29 of a holder 27, a groove perpendicular to the tenon 21 is arranged with a groove perpendicular to the holder 27, a lock pin 53 is inserted, cap screws 55, 57 are screwed into screw holes 59, 61, and the insert 17 is correctly arranged with the holder 27. A bolt 45 is inserted to be screwed into a screw hole, two end parts 35, 37 of the holder 27 are pulled, an end surface 23 of the insert 17 is tightly abutted on an end surface 31 of the holder 27, a width of a slot 33 is selected so that excessive stress is not applied to the mortise 29 and the tenon 21, and the tenon 21 is set without being seated on a bottom part of the mortise 29. The dovetail tenon 21, dovetail mortise 29, slot 33, etc., can be cut and formed by means of a wire cut discharge work machine, and plural inserts 17 can be taken from one damaged hogging milling cutter. |
