In a device for measuring the diameter of a workpiece which has a plurality of sections of different diameter and at least one movable carriage which has a sensor (detector) which can be assigned to the circumference of the workpiece and is connected to a measurement computer, provision is made of an additional length measuring device which has an optoelectric measurement head which detects a difference in diameter of a workpiece accommodated in holders and which can be moved in the longitudinal direction of the workpiece and is connected to the measurement computer via means for transmitting a displacement signal.
