Machine for washing and spin-drying laundry, comprising a drum rotating in a vessel, a device for driving the drum consisting of an asynchronous motor and of its power supply, the motor possessing a winding for the phases driving the drum at a washing speed, another winding for the phases driving the drum at a spin-drying speed, it being possible for the drum to rotate structurally at an intermediate speed for distributing the laundry at the periphery of the drum, characterized in that the intermediate speed of the drum is obtained by a temporary supply means which supplies current to at least one phase of the washing winding during a period of the spin-drying operation.
