On a fragile, heavy, relatively large packaging product (1), damage when impacting on a base can be avoided if air bags (5, 6, 7, 8) are fastened on the outside on a wrapping (2) around the packaging product (1), which air bags are released if a sensor, preferably an acceleration sensor, indicates an event in conjunction with an evaluation circuit, at the end of which event a relatively great impact is anticipated. The mounting and removal of the packaging container are particularly reliable if the wrapping (2) can be pushed apart and together in the manner of a telescope because, in this way, throughout the time in which the packaging product (1) is being manipulated, cushions are produced around it in a very short time in critical situations, by means of which cushions consequences of impacts on the packaging product (1) are avoided. If multi-layer air bags (5, 5', 5'', 6, 6', 6'', 7, 7', 7'', 8, 8', 8'') are used, the spring characteristic can be optimised. <IMAGE>
