With a rolling bearing cage for supporting a loose wheel (1) in a manual gearbox of a motor vehicle on a shaft (3), which cage has pockets bounded by webs (9) for the accommodation of cylindrical rolling elements (2), well-defined rolling-contact conditions are achieved even when the oil is cold and hence viscous, by the fact that the walls bounding the pockets in the circumferential direction of the cage are provided with recesses (11) and/or projections (10) in such a way that the rolling elements (2) are in contact with these walls over less than half their length, and the cage (7) is constructed in such a way that it is braked relative to the shaft (3) and/or bore of the loose wheel.
