<p>The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the anaerobic purification of waste water. According to the invention the waste water is purified in two steps. In the first step the waste water is for the major part purified in a first series of reactors (2, 3) by biofiltration, entrapment and sludge stabilization. In the second step (4) the effluent derived from the first series of reactors is further purified to the required grade of purity where the impurities are converted into methane. Usually the first series of reactors is operated intermittently, whereas the second series of reactors is operated continuously. However it is also possible to operate the first series of reactors continuously maintaining good overall process results.</p> |
