A surface covering material comprises a sheet 2 to 20 mm. thick of closed-cell fire-resistant cellular elastomer having a density of 0À2 to 0À6 covered by a fabric reinforced fire-resistant protective elastomeric layer 2 to 10 mm. thick. The protective layer is preferably provided with anti-slip projections. The surface covering materials are preferably made by forming a protective sheet with anti-slip reliefs by moulding a self-vulcanizing silicone layer in a polyethylene mould, incorporating a glass fabric reinforcement in said layer, vulcanizing the silicone by the action of water and bonding the said element to a cellular elastomer sheet. The specified cellular material is a synthetic rubber. The glass fabric is preferably pre-coated with primer.</p> |
