A wound temperature-resistant capacitor (as shown) comprises aluminium foil electrodes 10, 11 separated by mica or glass cloth strips 14, 15, and nickel terminals 16, 17, the condenser being subsequently impregnated in a solution of 500 ml. distilled water, 200 gms. Boric acid and 15 gms. magnesium oxide or magnesium nitrate or aluminium nitrate. After heat treatment, traces of magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide, aluminium oxide, aluminium hydroxide and boron nitride appear in the impregnant. The nitrates referred to may also be used alone in water as an impregnant. The capacitor is first wound on a mandrel, then put under pressure by a clamp 23, inserted in a mould 21 in the boiling impregnant from 20- 60 minutes, cooled at room temperature for 6- 8 hours then cured in the mould at 190� F. for 10-12 hours at 600� F. for 12-15 hours, removed from the mould and a protective foil layer removed, and again cured at 800� F. for 12-15 hours. The capacitor may also be impregnated and cured without clamping them so that they remain circular. Specification 718,330 is referred to. |
