An aqueous dispersion-type coating material capable of forming a strong, water-resistant film, contains, as a film-forming constituent, an aqueous dispersion of a resin reactant of a hydrophobic high molecular weight linear polyester resin and a low polarity water-soluble polyester resin. The hydrophobic high molecular linear polyester resin is added to the water-soluble polyester resin and emulsified in water as a colloidal emulsion.
