The electromagnetic clutch and brake unit for weaving machines has a main shaft (1) and a clutch disc (2) which can be driven by a motor (10). A fixed brake disc (3) or the clutch disc can cooperate with a single anchor disc (4) connected to the main shaft by electromagnets (5,6). The contact surfaces (17, 18) of the clutch and anchor discs which cooperate with each other are made of steel. The contact surface of the anchor and brake discs (19, 20) which cooperate with each other are on one band steel, and on the other hand steel and a frictional material (21) respectively.
