PURPOSE:To realize high sped detection by addressing memory such as a ROM by parallel picture data so as to output the data of the number of bits of black or white picture elements from the memory, and cumulatively summing this output data by a cumulative addition circuit. CONSTITUTION:Since the number of bits of the parallel picture data is constant, relation between its bit pattern and the number of bits of the black or the white picture elements (bits number of 1 or 0) contained in it can be obtained. Accordingly, if the number of bits of the black or the white picture elements is stored previously in an address corresponding to each pattern of the memory 4 according to this relation, the number of the black or the white picture elements in a picture can be obtained by the cumulative addition of the output data of the memory 4 by the cumulative addition circuit 5. Then, the parallel/ serial conversion of the parallel picture data is not performed, and besides, the cumulative addition of the memory output data can be easily made speedy compared with the counting of one bit unit. Thus, the number of the black or the white picture elements in the picture can be detected from the parallel picture data at high speed without using a large capacity memory, etc. |
