In a bobbin winder, with a reciprocating guide system formed of a number of units, a wing reciprocating unit for each extends over the ends of the stroke lengths. The wing reciprocating units are assembled generally on one plane. The reciprocating unit which ranges over the centre section of the stroke movement is a forward and reverse threading mechanism. The total stroke is a whole-number multiple of the end section of the stroke, and at least three times this section length. Each wing reciprocating unit pref. consists of two rotors turning against each other, with at least one wing, or it is only one rotor carrying up to three wings with a direction of rotation so that the wings carry the yarn over the end section of the stroke to the ends and then release it. In another form, each unit has a swing wing which moves to and fro on a swing axis at right angles to the reciprocating guide direction.
