PURPOSE: To efficiently remove waterweeds during high speed operation by arranging a screen in a water inlet opening at the outer side surface of a gear casing included in a marine propulsion device, and by forming a series of slots which are horizontal and parallel with one another and make cooling water flow into the water inlet opening, in the screen between first and second part thereof. CONSTITUTION: A screen 71 is arranged in a water inlet opening 51 having front and rear walls 39, 41, one end of a first part 73 in the screen 71 is extended outward and rearward from the front wall 39 of the opening 51. A second part 75 of this screen 71 is extended from the other end of the first member 73 at an obtuse angle to the first part 73 toward the rear wall 41 of the opening 51. A series of horizontal and parallel slots 81 arranged between the first and second parts 73, 75 allow cooling water to flow into the water inlet opening 51 between the first and second parts 73, 75. |
