PURPOSE: To raise combustion action efficiency and enhance combustion potential by providing a valve and a sleeve which is coaxial with the valve and moves in the same direction as the valve. CONSTITUTION: A bore is formed in a cylinder head 3. A sleeve 15 is slidably inserted in the bore. A suction valve 12 is movably mounted in the sleeve 15. A suction valve shaft 16 is coaxially arranged in the sleeve 15. During discharge, the sleeve 15 and the suction valve 12 are in a combustion space 5. Thus, at the end of a discharge stroke, it is possible to enable the volume of the combustion space 5 to be zero, therefore, there remains no combustion gas that heats the mixed gas in the combustion space 5. In this way, the mixed gas can flow into the cylinder in a cold state, combustion action is more efficient and high combustion potential can be expected.
