The invention relates to a process for the production of crosslinked polyamide (nylon) mouldings which comprises mixing and reacting polyamides containing at least 30 % by weight of branched polymer chains in the melt with a silane of the formula I <IMAGE> in which n is 0, 1 or 2, Z is an inert organic radical, Y is a divalent, organic radical bonded to the silicon atom and containing a functional group which reacts with amino groups (-NHR or -NH2, where R is an alkyl, aryl, cyclohexyl or aralkyl group having a maximum of 12 carbon atoms), carboxyl groups or amide groups of the polyamides in the melt to form a chemical bond, and A is a radical which can be hydrolysed on contact with moisture, subjecting the resultant reaction products to a moulding process, and subsequently bringing the resultant mouldings into contact with water or moisture. This process enables the production of polyamide mouldings having novel performance profiles.
