The invention relates to a mulch mat for covering cultivations, for improving the soil conditions and plant growth consisting of biological and synthetic materials. The mulch mat is constructed of a number of layers of biological and synthetic material, the successive layered materials being interconnected, preferably by a quilting seam. The top layer is made of biological material and the bottom layer is made of synthetic material, a further synthetic layer additionally being stuck or welded onto the layer made of synthetic material after quilting together. The mat can also consist of a number of such layers. The welded-on or stuck-on covering layer consists of light-impermeable but moisture-permeable material or of light-impermeable material which, correspondingly provided with holes of very small diameter or slots, is prepared for moisture permeability. These slots or holes of very small diameter which are made are to be made outside the region of the quilting seams.
