<p>In a serial communication system, incoming data is checked for errors. After an error is detected, at least n error-free transmissions must be received otherwise the system is reset. The number n is high for important data and low for less important data and can be altered, if desired depending on the number of errors detected. The data may be in the form of words or individual bits.</p> |
