The peak voltage meter described contains a comparator (2) by means of which the voltage of a first storage capacitor (16) is compared with an input voltage (1). A pulse-shaper stage (7) controls a switch (8) in such a way, that the input voltage (1) is switched through to a charge capacitor (9) as soon as it is larger than the voltage on the first storage capacitor (16). At the same time, the first storage capacitor (16) is charged via a diode path (2) to the input voltage (1) and discharged again via a discharge resistor (17). In order that the highest voltage peak in a quasi noise-like signal can be measured sufficiently accurately with a peak voltage meter of this type, a controllable resistor is used as the discharge resistor (17). Furthermore, a control device (RE) is provided, which controls the discharge resistor (17) in such a way that the average frequency of the pulse train of the pulses appearing at the output of the pulse-shaper stage (7) assumes a desired value. <IMAGE>
