In the case of a flexible abrasive body (10), the pliant backing is designed as a flexible web (11) made of electrically conductive material, to which bound and/or unbound reinforcing threads (12) made of electrically non-conductive material are joined. A bonding-bridge arrangement (15) made of metal, into which abrasive material (17) is embedded, is built up by electrodeposition on the backing. The pliant backing formed from a combination of electrically conductive and electrically non-conductive material is distinguished by its high resistance to tensile and compressive forces from any direction. It can withstand high stresses in a manner free from wear for a long time. <IMAGE>
