A roof structure (1), which is suitable in particular for a lightweight flat roof for industrial buildings, exhibits a room-side covering (3), a heat-insulating layer (5) which is located above the latter, and an exterior metal sheet (7). The heat-insulating layer (5) is made of small-format insulating-material elements (11) which are preferably of trapezoidal design. In order to release the covered roof portion, the covering (3) and the metal sheet (7) are configured in dependence on a limit temperature. This takes place, for example, by the selection of low-melting materials for these parts or else by a mechanism by means of which the covering (3) and the metal sheet (7) can fall out or can be folded away. The advantage of the roof structure (1) is that, in the event of a fire, hot gases are channelled outwards without any obstruction, as a result of which the life of the building is prolonged. By the small-format insulating-material elements (11) falling out, the danger of catching or wedging, as in the case of large-surface-area insulating-material layers, and a reduction in the flow value are avoided. <IMAGE>
