This invention relates to a simplified apparatus for measuring the quantity of ultraviolet radiation received by supporting a coloring material which is discolored or decolored in accordance with the quantity of the received radiation having a wavelength at least within the range of 300 to 360 nm, on a solid support member. The invention relates also to a method of measuring the ultraviolet radiation having the wavelength described below by sensing the quantity of the received ultraviolet radiation having the wavelength at least within the range of 300 to 360 nm, by exposing the apparatus to solar rays and monitoring the discoloration or decoloration of the coloring material of the apparatus.
