The multistaged known production processes for vehicle seats are complex and expensive. In addition, they generally result in a considerable heat accumulation in the seat area. The invention is intended to bring about a major improvement. For this purpose, the textile covering intended for the seat is laid into the mould before filling with the moulding compound and during foaming is bonded to the foam core produced. By pleating of a sheet-like structure laid in place with oversize, and, if appropriate, temporary fixing of the folds until the end of the foaming operation, a reduction in the heat accumulation is achieved for the finished seat. A series of developments and further developments increase the rationalisation effect and in particular reduce considerably the heat accumulation in the seat area.
