Swirling pool for generating an unstable vortex in liquids

As an extension to the waterpools known in garden architecture, in which a constant vortex of water can be observed, this invention permits the observation and the interaction between centrifugal force and gravity and/or other forces acting on the water. According to the invention, this is achieved by a circular pool with a tangential inflow and central outflow, whose bottom contour narrows gradually towards the outflow in the manner of a funnel. The constantly inflowing liquid is initially held up above the outflow by the centrifugal force but then yields to the pressure of gravity, so that the vortex collapses and the pool empties completely; the process begins again. If the non-constant outflow from the pool is passed directly into a second, identical pool, the unstable moment is compensated there, so that in that case a constant vortex funnel can be observed. Thus, such pools can be arranged in cascades to form interesting water games as instructional and illustrative models, e.g. for garden installations.
