In a T coupler for light guides cables, a notch (21, 22, 23; 57) is made in the light guide core (19; 51). Beam incoupling or outcoupling occurs by reflection at at least one of the side faces (27, 32, 39; 58, 59) of the notch (21, 22, 23; 57). In a first embodiment of the notch (21, 22, 23; 57), the side faces (27, 32, 39; 58, 59) are coated with a highly reflecting material (40) which is covered by a protective coating (41). In a second embodiment, a prism (42) is arranged in the notch (23; 57), and the side of the prism adjacent to the side face (39; 58, 59) of the notch (23; 57) is coated with the highly reflecting material (40).
