Orthopaedic pillow

In order to avoid discomfort that may result from damage to the cervical spine it is conventional to use orthopaedic pillows which have a plate-shaped part of an elastic foam intended to support the head and provided with a reinforced edge portion forming a type of bolster. These pillows are deficient in that their size is inadequately adapted to the personal constitution of the user. The invention provides an orthopaedic pillow which has two rectangular, essentially congruent plate parts (1, 2) arranged one on top of the other in a common fabric covering (21) which are made, for example, of a soft foam. One of these plate parts (2) is provided on its side facing the other plate part (1) with a peripheral foam frame (3) whose sections (5 to 8) allocated to the individual edge portions of the plate part (2) have different widths and/or heights and hence different supporting properties. Moreover, a differing design of the plate parts (1, 2) or the arrangement of an intermediate part (9) makes it possible for the cushion to have two sides of different hardness. This results in many variations which permit people of different constitutions to find the optimum position of the pillow. <IMAGE>
