In a container with a lid 2 comprising a locking safety device 28 which ensures that the lid does not fall off when subjected to an unintentional force, the container comprising a large opening and a cylindrical member 1 with an upper lid holding portion 3, the lid 2 is made of a resilient, thin unslit metal sheet and includes a circumferential skirt with a groove portion 14 in which the locking safety device 28 is received. The groove portion 14 of the lid skirt comprises a resilient abutment surface 14a, which resiliently abuts a locking surface (3a Fig. 1), 24a of the lid holding portion 3 when the lid is on the container.
