PURPOSE:To improve a voltage holding rate and to allow stable and good display by using alicyclic polyimide contg. an alicyclic group in the main chain as an oriented film. CONSTITUTION:This device consists of a twisted nematic liquid crystal element constituted by disposing a pair of electrode substrates 2 formed with oriented films 4 on the surfaces to face each other and placing a liquid crystal 5 in place between the substrates 2. The oriented films 4 are obtd. by using at least either of tetracarboxylic acid and diamine having the alicyclic group, i.e., the alicyclic system, subjecting such tetracarboxylic acid and the diamine to polycondensation to form the alicyclic polyimide film, then subjecting the surface thereof to a rubbing treatment. The high voltage holding rate is obtd. in this way and the stable and good display is executed. |
