A frame composed of four angle irons, standing on the floor of the bottom storey and extending up to the ceiling of the top storey constitutes the guide element for the lift car and has under the ceiling of the top storey a platform for the electric motor with lift winch and rope drum and for the switchgear. Only the up and down movements of the car, which hangs on two pull ropes, are carried out electrically; all other functions, such as opening and closing of the car door and the safety doors of each storey as well as the swithing-on and switching-off of the electric motor and the presetting of the travel direction of the lift car, are performed mechanically. The advantages achieved with the invention consist in particular in the fact that the passenger lift is of simple design, has a small space requirement, is very easy to maintain and is very safe. It is therefore cost-effective and is preferably suitable for two-storey residential buildings and old people's homes.
