The invention relates to a valve for the pharmaceutical industry which consists essentially of a valve housing, an operating spindle and a rubber-elastic sealing diaphragm. The intention is to improve a valve of this kind in such a way that it guarantees a hermetic seal in relation to the outside air and also allows the throughflow cross-section to empty. This is achieved by virtue of the fact that the throughflow cross-section (16) of the valve housing (2) is designed so as to be free from ribs, grooves or the like over its entire length and that the diaphragm (5) sealing off the valve housing (2) hermetically from the outside has, on its side facing away from the operating spindle (4), an integrally formed plug-like projection (6) matched to the sealing contours of the valve housing (2) as a shut-off element. <IMAGE>
