Method and apparatus for inward flanging

The invention is based on the object of further developing a known method and a known apparatus for the inward flanging of a tube end and for producing a certain diameter of the flange opening in such a way that the flange opening is not produced in the known manner by being punched out because this is associated with high tool wear and unavoidable punching waste. The solution of the object consists in that a flanging head (10) and a needle (12) which is guided axially therein and, in the region of its end, has an encircling groove (14) are driven against clamping jaws (20, 21) holding the tube (16). In the process, the tube end is flanged inwards until it strikes against the narrowest point of the groove (14). The needle (12) is then removed completely, the end region (13) of the needle effecting a calibration of the flange opening (32). A preferred area of application for the invention is with telescopic aerials for vehicles. <IMAGE>
