A method for gene detection according to the invention comprises the following steps: mixing a sample gene with a DNA probe which is complementary to a gene to be detected and is fluorescence-labelled to result in hybridisation with formation of a mixture of a hybridised DNA probe with a free DNA probe; injection of the mixture into an electrophoresis gel (3) at one end thereof; electrophoretic separation of the hybridised DNA probe from the free DNA probe in the gel (3), with the free DNA probe being able to flow into a buffer solution (4) which stands with the lower end, in the direction of migration, of the gel (3), and with only the hybridised DNA probe remaining in the gel (3); and after completion of step (111) irradiation of the gel (3) with excitatory light (11) and detection of the fluorescence (20) which is formed. The method for gene detection and an apparatus therefor makes it possible to obtain quantitative test results. It is additionally possible for the measurement time to be remarkably shortened compared with the state of the art. <IMAGE>
