A large container for transportation on a loading surface of a heavy goods vehicle, having a bottom frame, a front-wall frame, a rear-wall frame, and a roof frame, characterised in that the front-wall frame and the rear-wall frame are linked to the bottom frame so that they can be lowered onto the bottom frame and can be locked with the bottom frame in their position which is upright relative to the bottom frame and in their position which is lowered on the bottom frame, in that the roof frame can be lowered onto the bottom frame from a position supported by the upright front-wall frame and the upright rear-wall frame and locked relative to the front-wall frame and the rear-wall frame, after unlocking, by means of a lifting and lowering device, in that there are receiving fixtures for pile supports in the bottom frame, by means of which receiving fixtures a plurality of bottom frames can be stacked one above the other with the front-wall frame, rear-wall frame and roof frame lowered onto them, and in that the bottom frame has cutouts below which stacking members of a stacking truck can engage.
